This grandma is happy to receive her food

SOUP FOR THE STARVING IN VENEZUELA

While most of us in Noth America seem to be preoccupied with the outbreak of Covid19 the inhabitants of Venezuela have another challenge. They need basic support including food. This elderly lady smiles as she receives her soup portion for the day in Barquisemeta. So many people of all ages are in a similar pardicament she finds herself in and life is not easy these days in Venezuela.

We at GEMS are very happy to be able to assist in reaching out to these people with some food supplies. Together with the Spanish Fatarnity Church in Surrey BC and believers in the US we are doing all we can to assist our partnering churhes in Venezuela. Earlier we shipped a container with dehydrated vegetabels and apple chips from the Okanagan Gleaners and Fraser Valley Gleaners in Abbotsford BC. That shipment has already reached its destination and the content is now being distributed among many needy people in several cities of Venezuela. Cities including the city of St. Barbara, Barquisimeto, Maracay and many more smaller towns and villages.

Life in Venezueal is not easy at this point in time by any standards and there are many challenges the people there have to overcome including lack of food, employment and more. Now since Covid19 has also arrived there the challenges are greater than ever before. What would you do if this was your plight? Please consider that next time when you have a meal or need a mask for protection agains Covid19. Our plan is to continue and help the people in Venezuela. In order to do so we need a lot of help preparing and sending off our next shipment. Based on our last shipment we will need a lot of extra support as the cost is high. It would be great if you could join us in that effort. Every little bit helps.

As the Covid19 Pandemic is being felt in many countries world wide – so it is in Venezuela. This is a sickness that doesn´t consider any bundaries or class of people – it affects everyone including the poor and less fortunate in Venezula. The people there also have to take measures and learn how to react. Ithe lady in the picture above is one of many who´s learning to keep the distance. Hopefully she will be successful in keeping herself safe from this dreadful decease. In the meantime she´ll still have to wait in line for help as the food is of limited supply so many have to rely on soup kitchens like here. Please pray for this lady and many others who are struggling with life.
